Introduction to the Sixteenth Rendering of Daniel's Seventieth Week

(The authors' on-line book the Clock of the Ages is a study of Matthew 24 & 25, a lengthy passage which contains the most thorough prophetic teaching given by our Lord Jesus. Because those prophecies will affect the Church and because those prophecies are essential to our understanding of the Book of Revelation, it is recommended that Clock of the Ages be read before entering this study.)

Jesus gave us the key to understanding the prophecies of the Book of Revelationin His discourse to the disciples in Matthew 24 and 25. (This key applies to other major prophetic portions of the Bible as well.) We discussed the key in some detail in chapter twenty-nine of our book The Clock of the Ages, where we referred to His prophecies as "Spiritual Replays." (Click here to go to Clock of the Ages, booklet eight, chapter 29--use the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.) In that discourse Jesus gave us ten important end-time prophecies, each prophecy to take place at the end of our age, and each prophecy ending with the same event; i.e., the Rapture of the Church. Because the prophetic portion of Revelation covers the time period from the Rapture of the Church to the end of the world at the end of the Kingdom Age, the period for each replay includes the two remaining "night watches" assigned to Israel: i.e., "the cockcrowing"--the first 3 1/2 years of Daniel's 70th Week just prior to the installation of the Kingdom Age, and "the morning watch"--the second 3 1/2 period of Daniel's 70th week at the end of the Kingdom Age. (For a study of the prophetic watches of Israel's night, click here to go to Clock of the Ages, booklet seven, then scroll to chapter 28--use the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.)

SIXTEENTH SET

-The 1st 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 16:4-7 The third vial is poured on the "rivers and fountains." Those who would destroy anyone with faith in God will in turn be destroyed.
-The 2nd 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 16:8-9 The fourth vial is poured on the sun. At this point, the LORD has already sealed and harvested those with a living faith. Consequently, those left on the earth subject to this judgment will be those who chose to be at enmity with God.
4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

As we've said, prophetically, the rivers and the fountains of waters represent the sources of human life (cf. Isa 48:1 Ezek. 27:34 Rev. 8:11). Once again, the human race is in for horrific times. This time, those who want to destroy anyone with faith in God will be targeted.

5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. The angel will not only "execute" his orders, but he will pronounce the justness of them — and he will do so by reminding all of creation of the life, sacrificial death, and resurrection of the Son of God.

6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

This language brings to mind Rom 12:19:
"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."

7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

And I heard another out of the altar... This "another out of the altar" is a representative figure for the redeemed of mankind. They will concur with the Lord's angels that the almighty Creator is true and righteous in His judgments.

8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Remember, during the first 1/2 of Daniels 70th Week, the angels will be exerting care that the "seed of humanity" is preserved for the Kingdom Age. However, this 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week will bring down the curtains on mankind and the planet earth. We're not told just how the angel will "use the sun" to scorch men — he could just cause the sun to heat up or he could change the orbit of the earth, only God knows — but we do know that this will just be the start of some hot times for the inhabitants of the earth which is destined to be destroyed by fire at the end of this final half of Daniel's 70th Week.

2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and
they repented not to give him glory.

The attitude of those being scorched is not surprising when you consider that the Lord will have already harvested the earth, leaving only weeds and stubble.
